Sometimes it can be difficult to homeschool(家庭教育) on your own.  That‘s why it‘s   1  to connect or have a support group that will help you succeed in homeschooling.
The first step is to find a(n)  2  that has similar goals and ideas as you.  Maybe they homeschool in the same way, use the same curriculum or have the same ages of students.
It‘s important to make sure that you decide what you‘re looking for out of a support group and then you can go and   3  for it using the Internet or local organization.  Do you want your group to just support homeschool families and parents or do you  4  want to hold classes?  Are you organizing around a  5  event like field trips, a topic, or classes themselves?
If your homeschool support group is just for parents, consider advertising  6  .  Getting together a group of homeschooling parents can really help you to  7  ideas that will help improve your homeschool program and can help you succeed in the long run.  If you‘re going to include  8  in your support group, make sure to organize them by  9  level so they‘re with other students of the same age.
If you want to include classes as a part of your homeschool group, you need to decide what type of  10  you‘ll offer, enrichment, art, athletic, or even core curriculum.  Identify a teacher early on and a leader.  You don‘t want to be the  11  leader in your homeschool group.  You want to find people that you can trust to   12  alongside you.
Communication is the key.  You want to set up an email group, a phone chain and maybe even website to keep everyone  13  .  Whether you find a local group to join or  14  one of your own, having a support group can really help you  15  in homeschooling.

The local elementary school had just let out and I found myself behind a school bus as I was driving home. The bus   16   (stop) by a house sitting on top of a hill. A little girl no more than seven years old jumped down the bus steps and started running up the driveway toward the house.
I looked up the hill to see   17   she was going and saw her Dad waiting for her. As she got closer and closer her Dad smiled and knelt down to greet her. The second she got to him he folded her in   18   powerful arms and gave her a huge hug.
My eyes watered a bit as I watched this scene and remembered all the times   19   my own children had ran into my arms with   20   (smile) faces. Every single hug from   21   was a fountain of youth and a treasure of joy.
My lovely trip down memory lane was interrupted when I heard the car   22   me sound its horn(喇叭). I saw   23   school bus quickly pulling away. I started to follow it again with a   24   (light) spirit than I had before. I took that beautiful moment and stored it   25   (safe) in my soul where I knew it would remain forever.
16.stopped。

19.when。
20.smiling。
21.them。 指代my own children。根据was a fountain of youth可知,作者是以家长的身份叙述自己内心的感受,所以不可填me。

A
My grandfather died more than twenty-five years ago. I was fifteen. He was kind, strong, fair, and very funny. When I was a young musician, he was my biggest fan. I played my violin for him when he visited, and he loved everything, but each time he had one request. “Could you play ‘Amazing Grace’?” he asked, full of hope and with a twinkle in his eye, because he knew my answer was always, “I don’t know that one!” We went through this routine at every major holiday, and I always figured I’d have time to learn it for him later.
About the time I entered high school and started guitar, Grandpa got cancer. The last time I saw him alive was Thanksgiving weekend in 1985. My mom warned us that Grandpa didn’t look the same anymore and that we should prepare ourselves. For a moment I didn’t recognize him. He looked so small among all the white sheets. We had all gathered in Ohio for the holiday, and I’m sure we all knew we were there to say good-bye. I can see now that Grandpa held on long enough to see us each one more time. I remember how we ate in the dining room and laughed and talked while Grandpa rested in his hospital bed. I wonder if it was sad for him to be alone with our voices and laughter. Knowing Grandpa, he was probably content.
The next morning I found my moment alone with him. I pulled out my guitar, tuned to his appreciative gaze, and finally played for him “Amazing Grace.” I had worked on it for weeks, knowing it never mattered whether I actually played it well and choosing not to believe as I played that it was my last concert for my biggest fan. The cancer had stolen his smile, but I saw joy in his eyes. He held my hand afterward, and I knew I had done something important.
I argued with people all through college about my music major. I was told by strangers that music wouldn’t make me any money and it wasn’t useful like being a doctor. But I know firsthand that with music I was able to give my grandpa something at a point when no one else could.

A she hadn’t learned it yet

C. she brought him love and comfort
D. she believed she could play it many times for him.
28.C。 I saw joy in his eyes. He held my hand afterward, and I knew I had done something important. The cancer had stolen his smile排除A;根据it never mattered whether I actually played it well(我演奏得好不好并不重要)可排除B;根据choosing not to believe as I played that it was my last concert排除C。

It‘s almost impossible to go through life without experiencing some kind of failure. If you have a fear of failure, you might be uncomfortable setting goals. But goals help us decide where we want to go in life. Without goals, we have no sure destination.
Many experts recommend visualization(形象化) as a powerful tool for goal setting. Imagining how life will be after you‘ve reached your goal is a great motivator to keep you moving forward. However, visualization might produce the opposite results in people who have a fear of failure. In his article, researcher Thomas Langens showed that people who have a fear of failure were often left in a strong negative mood(消极情绪) after being asked to visualize goals and goal attainment.
So, what can you do instead?
Start by setting a few small goals. These should be goals that are slightly, but not overwhelmingly, challenging. Think of these goals as 'early wins' that are designed to help improve your confidence. For example, if you‘ve been too afraid to talk to the new department head (who has the power to give you the promotion you want), then make this your first goal: Plan to stop by her office during the next week to introduce yourself. Or, imagine that you‘ve dreamed of returning to school to get your MBA(工商管理硕士), but you‘re convinced that you‘re not smart enough to be accepted into business school. Set a goal to talk with a school counselor or admissions officer to see what‘s required for admission.
Try to make your goals tiny steps on the route to much bigger goals. Don‘t focus on the end picture: getting the promotion, or graduating with an MBA. Just focus on the next step: introducing yourself to the department head, and talking to an admissions officer. That‘s it.
Taking one small step at a time will help build your confidence, keep you moving forward, and prevent you from getting overwhelmed with visions of your final goal.
31. Paragraph 1 mainly talks about ____________.
A. the fear of failure
B. the difficulty in setting goals
C. the reasons for failure
D. the importance of setting goals

[color=]31. D。段落大意题。由第一段最后两句可知,本段主要是讲确立目标的重要性,以便引出“如果确立目标”的观点。

32. The opinion of Thomas Langens is used to ____________.
A. tell the results of setting goals
B. prove the limitations of visualization
C.draw the readers’ attention to the topic
D. stress the importance of visualization
32.B。 由people who have a fear of failure were often left in a strong negative mood可知,visualization的方法会使害怕失败的人产生消极的情绪,作者以此来证明visualization的局限性,为下文提出自己的观点作铺垫。
33. The fourth paragraph is developed mainly by ____________.
A. analyzing causes              B. making comparisons
C. following the order of space     D. giving examples
34. When setting goals, you should  ____________.
A. concentrate on your final goals   B. talk with your department head
C. begin with some small goals     D. have confidence in your success
34.C。 Start by setting a few small goals.可知。
35. What is the main theme of the passage?
A. Skills to set your goals.
B. Ways to overcome your fear of failure.
C. Having a goal is vital to success.
D. Visualization is a powerful tool for goal setting.

[color=]35. A。主旨大意题。文章最后三段都是在讲确立目标的方法和技巧,所以选A。

My friend Kathy and I were going to Colorado Springs for holiday. The only problem was, I didn‘t have any luggage to pack my belongings in.
My friend Debbie offered to lend me a suitcase that belonged to her father, who had passed away long ago. “I don‘t know if you‘ll want to use it,” she said so gently, “it‘s very old, worn out, and such an ugly yellow color.” I was so touched by her offer to lend something that belonged to her father, but I was also concerned about the possibly of it being damaged or lost. She insisted that I take it. So with the suitcase safely in hand, I boarded the train with Kathy.
We spent two days and one night on the train, sleeping in our seats. As we slept, we were awakened at times, by the noises of the train pulling in and out of the stations.
The next morning we eagerly awaited the announcement: Next stop, Colorado Springs. But suddenly, there came another announcement over the loud speaker. “During one of the overnight stops, many pieces of luggage were mistakenly removed from the train and left at the wrong location.”
Kathy and I just looked at each other, as I felt the disappointment swell. Could my worst fear be coming true, was Debbie‘s suitcase lost?
Just then two train conductors passed our seats. One of them jokingly said to the other, “Did you ever see such an old, ugly, brighter yellow, piece of luggage in all of your life?”
Before the other conductor could answer, I screamed, “YES, MY SUITCASE MADE IT!”
The two conductors stopped in their tracks! And, very red in the face, couldn‘t seem to apologize enough for having insulted my suitcase.
When I returned it, I couldn‘t wait to get the suitcase back into Debbie‘s safe hands. She asked, “Did everything go well on the trip?” Somehow, I just couldn‘t resist telling her what had happened. She laughed heartily.
When I recall the golden suitcase, I‘m reminded, that like the suitcase, we can see ourselves as too old, useless, worn out, and of little value. Or, we can take a closer look and realize that we are one of God‘s most valued creations -- unique, and holding inside our most valuable possessions -- that of love, faith, hope, and wisdom.
36. After borrowing the suitcase, the author was worried about ____________.
A. its appearance
B. its size
C.its color
D.its safety
36.D。 根据第二段but I was also concerned about the possibly of it being damaged or lost.
37. Hearing the announcements, the author____________.
A. was happy to reach the destination
B. felt angry at the service on the train
C. feared that the suit case might be lost
D. asked the conductors to look for the suitcase
37. C。 根据第五段“was Debbie‘s suitcase lost?”可知。
38. How did the two conductors feel when the author claimed her suitcase?
A. Puzzled.   B. Embarrassed.    C. Astonished.   D. Amused.
39. From the last paragraph we can learn that ____________.
A. a friend in need is a friend indeed
B. God helps those who help themselves
C. inner beauty is more important than appearance
D. a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step
39.C。 最后一段作者将人比作箱子,表面看有些人老而无用,但内心则装着珍贵的财产(holding inside our most valuable possessions - that of love, faith, hope, and wisdom)。
40. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Golden Suitcase.
B. An Unforgettable Trip.
C. A Warm-hearted Friend.
D. Two Impolite Conductors.
40.A。 When I recall the golden suitcase也可得到提示。

A deal has been signed to turn by-products from a Scottish distillery(酿酒厂) into fuel for cars.
In what is declared to be a world first, the Tullibardine distillery in Perthshire has linked up with a spin-out company from Napier University in Edinburgh. They plan to use bacteria to feed on the 'leftovers' from the whisky(威士忌酒) making process. This will produce butanol which can be used to fuel vehicles.
More than 90% of the stuff that comes out of a whisky distillery is not whisky. It is leftovers like draff and pot ales(酒糟) - both produced in the early stages of the process. They are high in sugar and are currently used for things like fertiliser and cattle feed. Napier University‘s Biofuel Research Centre (BfRC) has already shown that the right bacteria can feed on those by-products to produce butanol - a direct replacement for vehicle fuel. Now the spin-out company, Celtic Renewables, and independent whisky producer Tullibardine have signed an agreement. Together they will apply the process to thousands of tonnes of the distillery‘s leftovers.
Professor Martin Tangney, founder of Celtic Renewables, said: 'Our partnership with Tullibardine is an important step in the development of a business which combines two important Scottish industries - whisky and renewables. This project shows that creative use of existing technologies can utilise resources on our doorstep to benefit both the environment and the economy.'
Douglas Ross, managing director of Tullibardine, which spends £250,000 disposing of its by-products every year, said: 'We are delighted to be partnering Celtic Renewables in this creative business, the obvious benefits of which are environmental. It takes a cost to us and turns it into something that has social as well as commercial value.'
The project is being supported by a grant(拨款) from the Scottish government‘s Zero Waste Scotland initiative. Celtic Renewables said it eventually aimed to build a processing plant in Scotland, with the hope of building an industry that could be worth £60m a year.
41. According to the passage, ____________ will be used to take the place of petrol.
A. whisky   B. whisky leftovers   C. butanol   D. draff and pot ales
42. How do people deal with whisky leftovers at present?
A. They throw them away.
B. They use them to feed people.
C. They use them to feed bacteria.
D. They use them for crops or cattle.
43. What does the underlined word “utilise” in the fourth paragraph probably mean?
A. Make use of.  B. Get rid of.   C. Use up.  D. Find out.
44. It can be inferred from the passage that____________.
A. the government either supports or opposes the project
B. the technology has not been widely used yet
C. the project will benefit both the environment and the economy

根据第三段“They are high in sugar and are currently used for things like fertiliser and cattle feed.”可知。

F. Classic portraits get a modern day look. A host of classic portraits have been given a modern day look thanks to a unique art project.

46. Rift wood is carefully crafted and transformed into this thought provoking masterpiece. Full of wildlife such as deer, giraffes, monkeys and even rhinos, this sculpture bursts with nature that surrounds mankind. The amazing sculpture was created by American sculpture Paul Baliker, 59, after sculpting became his addiction.
47.The strange pictures were created using hand models and body paint to create visions of a castle, church, and two footballers flying into a tackle. Each picture sees the hands and fingers carefully crossed, bent, or partially hidden to the millimetre to cleverly angle the palms and fingers into the lifelike pictures. The intricate detail was then painted on the shapes and blended in to create the illusions, including one creation that sees a hand arch down to become a banana skin.
48. Inspired from the recent creation of his girlfriend‘s terrible Halloween costume, a 25-year-old artist from Massachusetts has set out to show audiences what‘s really under his skin with his elaborate anatomical body illustrations. Painting life-like muscles and ligaments(韧带) across human skin, the artist ‘s recreation of the human body opened up, shows that beauty is more than skin deep.
49.You wouldn‘t believe it but these huge sculptures are in fact created entirely from driftwood. Using tree branches, sticks and roots found on the Washington coastline, artist Jeffro Uitto can fashion anything from huge wooden animals to complex home furniture. Each sculpture can take years to create and finding the right piece for each project can take months at a time
50. A team of digital artists spent three months working with TV historian Dr Lipscomb to update classic portraits for a string of historical figures. Dr Lipscomb used insights from her research into their lives to help the artists imagine what the famous figures from the past might look like were they alive today. Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I and William Shakespeare are all among the historical figures whose spending habits and clothes are shown in the series as if they were modern people.

It was a sunny spring day, but that was lost on me. In my mind a thousand concerns and worries were racing around and around. It seemed as if they were going to ruin my life. I had even foolishly taken the day off work so I could spend more time on my worrying. I couldn’t think. I couldn’t relax. I couldn’t even sit still.
Hoping to clear my head, I drove to a local lake that had a quiet path around it. As I walked along my brain continued to race. Halfway around I stopped at a small bench and sat down. My legs weren’t tired, but my brain was exhausted.
After sitting a few minutes I just let go and stopped thinking. I listened to the gentle music of the birds singing their love songs in the trees. I watched as the sun shone and danced off the clear waves of the lake. I noticed the first wild flowers of spring growing towards the light. I breathed in the fresh, clean air. I felt at peace for the first time all day. I stayed happily there on that bench for a long time. And when I finally left I took the peace with me.

Last month I attended a lecture delivered by Professor Zhang, a health expert, with the theme of “sitting for too long is bad for people‘s health”. From the lecture I learned that with the development of TV and computer, people today sit down more than ever before in history, which has a bad effect on their health. Not only can this habit make your neck or back ache, but it may also make your fat, increase the risk of heart disease and even death. To prevent these problems from happening, Professor Zhang pointed out that those who sit too much, such as students and office workers, should form some good habits in life, such as going to school or work on foot or by bike rather than by car, taking the stairs instead of the elevator and standing while talking on the phone. He particularly reminded us that we students should stand up to do some activities during break time rather than sit for hours.
So worried was the author that he found it difficult to rid himself of concerns and worries. However, while sitting by a lake and enjoying the peace of nature, he felt at peace with himself.
(With the mind full of concerns and worries, the author drove to a lake. Sitting on a bench and enjoying the peace of nature, he/she rid all the worries of himself/herself and felt at peace.)
The experience of the author reminds me of my years in high school, which is a very worrying time for us students. Crammed schedules, endless examinations and expectation from parents and teachers are the main causes of my concerns and worries. Sometimes, I am too worried to focus on my studies. Worse still, my health also suffers because of worry.
Since too much worry has a bad effect on our studies and lives, effective means should be taken to deal with it. As for me, I usually share my feelings with people around me, like my parents, teachers or friends. Besides, I often free myself from worries by listening to music or doing physical activities. If I still cannot rid myself of worries, I’ll have a good cry and then try to concentrate on my studies.
When we are free of worry, we can become healthier, study more efficiently and get along better with other people. In a word, only when we have a good mood can we grow up happily and healthily.
